COSE Arts Business Network to Celebrate First Anniversary with Reception at The Cleveland Play House COSE’s (Council of Smaller Enterprises) Arts Business Network celebrated its first anniversary at a special reception scheduled for Thursday, May 24 from 6 - 9 p.m. at The Cleveland Play House, 8500 Euclid Avenue in Cleveland. Highlighting the event was a keynote address and performance from Ed Caner, violinist/fiddler and Director, of Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Programs (STEP) at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU). Caner holds a master’s degree in physics and entrepreneurship from CWRU, a master’s degree in violin performance from Cleveland State University. Labeled by the Cleveland Plain Dealer as "One of the most versatile musicians on the planet," he has performed with over 25 major artists, including Smokey Robinson, Page and Plant, Luciano Pavarotti, Natalie Cole, and the Moody Blues. Caner is the instructor of the course “Technology and Feasibility Analysis” at CWRU and he also serves on the advisory boards of several start-up companies, including a revolutionary microphone technology business in Albuquerque, New Mexico. “Ed Caner is such an interesting mix of art and business – he’s an incredibly talented musician who learned the ins and outs of the music business as he toured with a number of famous acts over the years,” says COSE Arts Network Leader Abby Maier. “He also understands the principals of entrepreneurship through his work with the STEP Program at CASE. Plus, how often does a keynote speaker also provide the entertainment?” The COSE Home-Based Business Network was launched in May of last year and connects arts-based business owners to one another as well as to resources to help members manage and grow their businesses. COSE has more than 300 arts-based businesses in its membership. “Our first year has gone by very quickly, and it has been quite an adventure,” says Maier. “We are excited to have a dedicated, active group of Arts Network members now participating in COSE programming, saving money, getting health coverage, and learning from their peers.”
