Nina
Gibans, Cultivating Cleveland's Creative Essence
Story by Pamela Hardy ![]() |
For Nina Freedlander Gibans--area arts activist and author--her work is all about digging among the roots of regional art history, cultivating new interpretations, and sharing the seeds with future generations. Rich color photos showcase the work of well-known Cleveland area artists and architects, past and present. Creative Essence first explores the region's tradition, beginning with the Cleveland School of artists that was active during the first half of the twentieth century. It moves on to examine the changes that occurred in the last half of the century and the development of the visual arts in northeast Ohio. Perhaps the greatest significance of Nina Freelander Giban's work--whether in print or electronic media, or in person--is to cultivate continuity between the past, present and future.
