Market Under Glass, an annual benefit held for
Harvest for Hunger at the Galleria, was once again a huge success this
April. Guests were able to sample fine foods and wines from more than
40 featured restraurants and distributors.

Art has a new hot spot downtown in the
Galleria at Erieview. As a venue for the
Sparx Gallery Hop 2007, the Galleria will
play host to over 200 artists during the
Greater Cleveland Arts and Gallery
Festival (GCAGF). Hailing from as far
east as Chesterland, as far west as
Bowling Green, and as far south as
Columbus, the artists of the GCAGF
demonstrate the wealth of talent present
across many areas of Ohio.

This year’s artist and event line up is
even more spectacular than 2006, as we
are proud to announce the participation
of the Viktor Schreckengost Foundation,
Charles Herndon, C.E. VanDuzer,
Professor Emeritus from the Cleveland
Institute of Art, and Al Bright, currently
Professor Emeritus at Youngstown State
University. Also among our exhibitors are
several of Mr. Herndon’s former students,
who will be on hand demonstrating &
selling their works.

Often used for events, the Galleria is
expanding on its year-round indoor art
walk theme by spreading out the artists
in the GCAGF over the entire common
area of the Galleria. Not only will
individual artists have their works for
sale, but different art galleries and art
clubs will be displayed and on hand to
answer questions about their
establishments. Art patrons may stroll
through the various areas discovering the
wide range of artists and art
organizations Northeast Ohio has to offer.
Lisa Nemeth of Northcoast Promotions
and Jack Hamilton of Artist Review Today,
co-creators of the GCAGF, envisioned a
show where ease of accessibility for
artists and patrons alike would provide a
diverse range of experiences. “In January
we started a program here where local
artists & craftsmen could display their
works once a week. The program
became so successful that is was expanded
to three days a week,” said Lisa.
“The Galleria at Erieview is an especially
exciting place in which to hold art shows.
The layout of the space lends itself
beautifully and the $1 parking in the
underground garage makes it easy for
Gallery Hop visitors to begin and end
here.” With a Sparx trolley stop right at
the St. Clair entrance, visitors can
purchase a weekend trolley pass for $5
after seeing what the Galleria has to
offer. This gives people the freedom to
explore the other featured art districts
without ever having to drive their own
cars.

Complementing the GCAGF are the
Galleria’s existing art galleries, where
even more regional artists can be found.
Artist Review Today, the Hungarian
Heritage Museum, and the Frame Center
Gallery will all house a variety of works in
different mediums.
Visitors to the GCAGF will not only be
able to view and purchase art —they can
engage in several demonstrations. Over
the course of the weekend there will be
film shorts created by local film companies,
a short play presented by the Molly
Gallery, on site painting, and chalk artists
on St. Clair. Live music and entertainment
will also fill the air indoors and out,
creating a pleasant atmosphere for
visitors to enjoy a sit-down meal at Café
Sausalito and Key West Café or grab a
quick bite at any of the Galleria’s 10 food
court restaurants. On Friday & Saturday,
Café Sausalito will hold an outdoor
barbeque in the outside courtyard.
Vicky Poole of Galleria management says,
“We’re excited for our second year of
participation in Sparx in the City, and with
the generous sponsorship of the Avenue
District, this year’s show will be the best
yet. The Galleria is committed to
Cleveland’s art community and looks
forward to a great weekend.”
